Your Favorite Seafood’s Restaurant’s Favorite Fish Puns, Quotes, And Jokes

Bear with us on this one. We aren’t proud of it, but by golly, people need a dang fish pun, joke, and quote blog every once in a while.

Before we get going with our charade that is today’s post, allow us a word or two about our local seafood restaurants. Our Mulligan’s Seafood restaurant locations at Lake Worth, Vero Beach, and Jensen Beach provide world-class seafood (and landfood). On top of that, we offer an amazing dining experience. Whether you are looking for a waterfront restaurant with a beautiful view or want to sit streetside, you’re going to love the atmosphere we’ve worked hard to create here at Mulligan’s Beach House Bar & Grill.

Now that we’ve established that fundamental fact, let’s have some fun and dive right in!

Terrible, Terrible Fish Puns

Whale, to be honest, there’s a decent chance I’m going to miss that meeting, can we reschedule?

Yes I will dolphinitely have those reports with you by the end of the day. (Okay, this one is pretty good. We recommend trying to drop “dolphinitely” at your next business meeting. Go ahead, have a little fun. See if you can raise any eyebrows.)

I’m herring a lot of problems here but not a lot of solutions.

When we take this to court, he’s definitely going to be found gillty.

This isn’t rocket science. You don’t have to be a brain sturgeon to understand it. (These ones are just okay, we readily admit.)

You need to put your heart and sole into this business or you know where the door is

Any fin is possible if you don’t trout yourself! (Astounding.)

You can tune a guitar, but you can’t tuna fish. Unless of course, you play bass. (If you don’t like this pun, you aren’t welcome at any of our establishments. Just kidding, we just said that for the halibut. Are we krilling you yet? Just squidding. But all jokes aside, if you all can think of better fish puns, let minnow!

Joke Time!

Alright, thank you for your patience. Every seafood restaurant that has a blog is legally obligated to post a minimum of one pun-themed blog every year. If you’ve got a problem with that, take it up with your city councilperson is the best advice we can offer.

On to better things. Let’s have some fun. Let’s keep it clean. Here are some fish jokes the kiddos will love!

Q: Where do women fish keep their money?

A: In their octopurse.

Nice.

Q: What do you call a crayfish with a messy room?

A: A slobster

That joke pretty much wrote itself. Not that we did…

Q: How did the guppies get to the hospital?

A: In a clambulance.

Here’s a joke we take issue with. Why did the writer select guppy as their fish of choice? Why not some other shellfish, like a mussel or even an oyster? That being said, it’s a great concept.

Q: Why are fish so well educated?

A: They swim in schools!

We don’t care who you are, if you don’t enjoy this joke, you might need to see a doctor. Once you get cleared, come to Mulligan’s seafood restaurant for some crab legs, and then read this joke again. You’ll be good.

Q: How do fish know their weight?

A: They have scales.

Good form.

Q: How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh?

A: Tentacles.

Most people know this joke by now, and we think that’s fantastic.

Q: What did the magician say to the fisherman?

A: Pick a cod, any cod!

Good joke, for sure. Maybe it should be the magician from Boston to help explain the accent. Just our two cents…

Q: How do you keep a fish from smelling?

A: plug its nose.

Timeless.

Jokes For An Older Crowd

A guy is walking along the pier one day when he comes across an old man with his shoes off, trousers rolled up, legs dangling in the sea and fishing with an imaginary rod.

The guy’s confused, so he asks, “What are you doing?”

The old man replies, “Fishing for idiots.”

“Sounds good,” says the guy. “Can I join you?”

The old man says, “Of course you can. Sit down here next to me, son.”

So the guy sits down and casts an imaginary rod out.

We aren’t sure if there is more to this joke than meets the eye. Probably not, but still, we can’t help but think about why the idiot got his own imaginary rod out. We get the joke, don’t get us wrong, but that action is curious, perhaps even unsettling.

I sat and watched this guy fishing for four hours this morning.

Eventually he said to me, “Why don’t you give it a go?”

I said, “No thanks. I don’t have the patience.”

So the drunk fisherman walks several yards away and drills another hole.

As he peers into it he again hears a voice say, “There’s no fish down there.”

So he walks about 20 yards away and drills another hole.

Once again the voice says, “There’s no fish down there.”

The fisherman looks up to the sky and asks, “God, is that you?”

“No, you idiot,” says the voice. “It’s the rink manager.”

This joke might fly at a bar, especially if it were a hockey bar. Your call, though.

Our Favorite Quotes About Seafood

You can put the greatest seafood restaurant next to an average steak house in an urban area, and that steak house will do more business than the seafood place. If you go to the water, you can put an average seafood place next to the greatest steak house, and people are going to eat seafood. – Tilman J. Fertitta

Did we mention that Mulligan’s locations have seaside or waterfront locations? However, that’s as far as the comparison goes, seeing as how we are anything but an “average seafood restaurant.” Come and sit down next to the water and get treated to outstanding seafood, and landfood, should the mood strike.

Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing it’s not the fish they are after. – Henry David Thoreau

Whoa, this post got deep, real quick.

Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. – Albert Einstein

This is an excellent quote with which to end the post. Its applications are many, and its wisdom rings true. Thanks, Albert.

Tips For Preparing Fish

There are some good seafood restaurants along the Atlantic coast of Florida. There are some lousy ones, too. It’s difficult to determine which are which, mainly because the bad ones don’t come out and tell you that they aren’t concerned with the quality of their service or product. That’s why it’s helpful to do some online research on Google Reviews, Yelp, Urban Spoon, and the like before heading to the first restaurant that pops up after you type “seafood restaurant near me” into your smartphone.

Word of mouth is a great way to figure out how to separate the pretenders from those who care about pleasing their customers with top-shelf seafood, like we do here at Mulligan’s Beach House and Grill. But if you aren’t a local, perhaps you are on vacation or just happen to be passing through the area and are in the mood for some delectable fish tacos and the like, who are you going to ask? That’s why we’ve made this space here at Mulligan’s; we want people who are looking for local seafood restaurants to be able to find us on search engines. This is the case whether you are looking for kid-friendly restaurants in Sebastian, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Lake Worth, Jensen Beach, or Vero Beach.

But we have this space for more reasons than simply attracting people to our local seafood restaurants. In past posts, we’ve highlighted local attractions, our menu items, and have offered some pairing ideas when it comes to coupling types of fish with wine, beer, and other adult beverages.

In today’s post, we wanted to provide you with some simple, easy-to-remember tips for preparing fish. We understand that most people aren’t able to eat out at a seafood restaurant every time they want some fish, and with that in mind, keep reading if you are interested in picking up some tips provided to you by Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill!

Selecting The Right Filet

Let’s start at the beginning, with selecting the right filet. As we are fans of all kinds of fish, we recommend you not head to your local supermarket with too specific intentions. That is, if they don’t have salmon (or fresh salmon), be open to a different kind of fish. All you need is a bit of salt, pepper, and perhaps some fresh herbs and lemon to bring out the natural flavor of any kind of fish. Of course, there are plenty of recipes that have fancy sauces and preparation methods, but selecting a quality filet is the essential precursor to any delicious home-cooked fish dish.

The fact of the matter is that similar types of fish are easily exchanged for one another, so don’t get hung up on a single kind. Look for a filet that doesn’t have water pooled around it. Don’t feel the need to avoid whole fish, either. All you have to do is simply ask the attendant to “dress” the fish for you, which entails removing the guts, head, and other undesirable parts of your selection.

Just make sure the fish you are selecting smells more like the sea than that “fishy” smell. Another thing to look out for is if the fish filet you have in mind is soft. That is bad. You want it to be firm. Feel free to ask the attendant what their recommendation is, too.

Storage

Storage also plays a key role in the end result. If you aren’t planning on eating the purchased fish on that same day, you want to make sure to keep it chilled in the coldest part of your refrigerator. On that day, take it out a few hours before you plan to cook it. Then run it over cool water and pat it dry to make sure scales and whatnot fall off. Then put it on a plate, uncovered, and leave it in your refrigerator until it is time to go.

Pan Frying Your Fish

If you elect to pan fry your fish, all you need is some oil, butter, salt, pepper, flour, and whichever spices you prefer. Simply dust the filets with your combination of salt, pepper, flour, and spices, and dip them in the heated butter and oil. The butter is for flavor and the oil is to make sure the butter doesn’t burn. And while we aren’t providing our readers with a specific recipe in today’s post, a good rule for frying time is 7-10 minutes per inch of thickness. So, for a thin fillet, you are looking at 3-4 minutes of frying time.

Battered Fish

Everybody likes fish and chips, but it can be quite the challenge to duplicate the kind of deliciousness you might find at a top restaurant like Mulligan’s. Here’s a “life hack” for you; instead of using milk or regular water in your recipe, replace it with beer or even soda water. You want to make sure that the batter you use is ice-cold when you dip your fish in it. Ideally, your batter should be golden brown within 60 seconds. The key is to make sure your batter doesn’t soak through to make your fish soggy.

Come See Us At Mulligan’s!

We love to give little tips and serve up fun facts on these blog posts, but not half as much as we like serving up an ice-cold beer with some delicious fish and chips here at Mulligan’s. With locations in Jensen Beach, Vero Beach, Lake Worth, and beyond, we would love if you would take the time to come see why people love Mulligan’s!

Mulligan’s Reviews: Why Tourists And Locals Agree!

Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill is an ideal local seafood choice for families. We are known as a family restaurant that offers a wide variety of menu items that everyone can enjoy. Even if you aren’t a seafood fan per se, you’ll find our menu is stocked with unique selections. Whether you are interested in seeing us for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, we’ve got the kid-friendly restaurant-atmosphere locals and even tourists come to see us for.

Don’t get us wrong now. We aren’t trying to brand ourselves as the Chuck-E-Cheese of the Southeast or anything like it. No matter if you are a family, looking to host a private corporate event, or are just looking for a spot with a killer happy hour and friendly staff, we’ve got you covered. With Mulligan’s locations in Stuart, Lake Worth, Jensen Beach, Vero Beach, Sebastian, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, we are proud to be one of the top local seafood restaurants in eastern Florida.

But rather than simply toot our own horn for the entirety of today’s post, we figured we might utilize a more effective way to convince you that we are worth a try by letting folks who have already experienced our deliciousness make the case for us! Of course, the best way would be for you to drop what you are doing and come get some delicious local seafood (or landfood, mind you). But, in the case that some of our readers like to do their due-diligence before shelling out their hard-earned cash on some local seafood, read on to find out what both tourist and locals are saying about Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill!

“Wonderful Restaurant Right On The Beach”

“Wonderful restaurant right on the beach. We sat outside and the weather was amazing. Staff was very helpful and friendly.  Great food. I had the fish tacos and they were amazing. Long island iced teas were good and strong too. There were fire jugglers on the beach as well. Highly recommended this restaurant to anyone visiting Vero Beach.” – Becca M., Local Guide, Five Stars, Google Reviews, Vero Beach Restaurant Location.

We like your style, Becca. Going for the fish tacos right off the bat lets us know you are worthy of your “Local Guide” title, as they are an excellent choice! We are also glad you mentioned one of our cocktail selections. Our Happy Hour is great if you are looking for great tasting and inexpensive adult beverages. Plus, we aren’t skimpy on the alcohol distribution, either. We think it’s safe to say we can all agree that that is an essential element of any restaurant happy hour. Finally, Becca was kind enough to take the time to tell us and others about how much she appreciated the atmosphere. Being right on the beach is no small thing, whether you are a tourist or a native Floridian! Thanks again, Becca, for your kind words and business!

“Great Food, Friendly Staff. Amazing Experience Right Next To The Ocean”

We have visited this restaurant twice in the last month and absolutely love it! Tonight I had the monster fish and chips and it was the best I’ve had outside of the UK. I also loved their Firecracker Shrimp Tacos! We live locally in the area and have put this restaurant on our top three places to eat. Great atmosphere right next to the ocean with relaxing sounds of the waves. Great food, friendly staff. Amazing experience and my absolute favorite part is the happy hour special anytime a football game is on! $3 for a beer for 21 ounces cannot be beat. We will return many more times! Seth Barber, Five Stars, Google Reviews, Vero Beach Restaurant Location.

If you aren’t gonna try the fish tacos, the Firecracker Shrimp Tacos are a safe bet to leave you quite satisfied as well. In this case, Seth tried the Monster Fish and Chips. When you get the kind of praise that puts it on (or at least just below) the level of authentic British fish and chips, you know you are on the right track. Take our variety of delicious choices and combine it with our tranquil oceanside atmosphere, a high-quality, attentive staff, and inexpensive prices, and you’ve got yourself a winning formula! We appreciate your words, business, and five stars, Seth. Thanks for taking the time!

“My Son Cleaned His Plate Along With Some Of Mine!”

If I’m not mistaken our waiter’s name was Erica. She was awesome. She did her job without being over the top. We had just had a bad experience from their neighbor and decided to take our business here. My son cleaned his plate along with some of mine! Good Job!” Latrice Walker, Five Stars, Google Reviews, Lake Worth Restaurant Location.

Thanks for your five-star review, and your business, Latrice. We value these reviews because it gives a chance to brag about ourselves without having to toot our own horn too much. But we also think they are important to mention because so much of the world gets their information from the internet and review sites like Google, Yelp, Urban Spoon, and the like. When we see reviews like the one above provided by Latrice, it just makes us smile because it reminds us why we are in the service industry in the first place. We were able to give Latrice and her son a great night together. When someone takes the time out of their busy day to let a business know they were pleased (in addition to giving us your money in the first place), it’s a sign we are doing something right!

“I Really Enjoyed The Atmosphere”

I really enjoyed the atmosphere it was Street side outside seating but still nice. This place is very casual and good for a light lunch. You can view the water if you bend your neck to see it. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. There was a wide variety of selections from the menu. I had the fried fish sampler which was OK however everything tasted the same because it was all done in the same batter. I really liked the huge oversized bench outside great spot to take a picture.” Cindy Marvelous, Local Guide, Five Stars, Google Reviews, Jensen Beach Restaurant Location.

We love this five-star review provided to us by Cindy Marvelous, a Local Guide in the Jensen Beach area, because it touches on a range of qualities we’ve worked hard to cultivate at our Jensen Beach seafood restaurant. Firstly, Cindy mentions that she was seated street side. Sometimes being right next to the street can have its benefits; you are able to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city and the people who are coming and going. People watching is a highly underrated hobby, in our opinion.

Cindy also noted the variety on the menu, which we have also touched on above. And, Cindy, we appreciate your constructive feedback when it comes to the Fried Fish Sampler having been too single-note because of the batter. We are always looking to improve, and by no means do we claim to be perfect! Finally, Cindy noted the massive bench outside our Jensen Beach Seafood restaurant location, which many people find as an ideal spot for that “photo op”.

Come See Us Soon!

Seafood And Sea Life Facts

But in all honesty, as much as we enjoy talking about our “fish restaurant near me” as you may have searched on your smartphone to find this page, that’s not what this promised blog topic is about! It’s about little-known facts about seafood, and by golly, that’s what our readers are going to get. If you are interested in learning some facts that might impress (or weird out) your friends, read on!

Sidenote: we recommend you bring some of these tidbits up at random, perhaps interrupting a good friend while they are telling you about their day. Consider yelling these tips at them, too, for an added shock-value. Feel free to make it your own, too.

  • The US Department of Health says that you should eat a minimum of two servings (455 grams, or 1 lb) of seafood per week. Here at our local seafood restaurant, we couldn’t agree more.
  • Yellow Fin Tuna, or Ahi Tuna, can weigh all the way up to 300 lbs! That’s 175 kilograms of delicious Yellow Fin Tuna. Of course, we go through our tuna fairly quickly here at Mulligan’s, so one of these catches might last us through a single evening…maybe.
  • Seafood, and fish in particular, is a significant source of nutrition and protein for over a billion people across the globe. In developing countries, this is especially the case. Fish farming is becoming an increasingly profitable business in nations such as ours, in part because the public has started to recognize the health benefits of getting their daily protein intake from fish sources.
  • Our oceans are becoming more acidic than ever before. Indirect causes stemming from climate change have caused accelerated warming in areas that fish call home. The increased warmth of the earth in turn warms oceans, which increases the acidic quotient, or acidification rates. Former President Barack Obama cited acidification as a primary concern related to global warming in an Executive Order he issued in 2013. So while this is not a novel concept, it is one of which to be aware.
  • 8 percent of fish that have been caught are thrown back into the sea, worldwide. While the intention might be good, too often these fish are either damaged, dead, or dying.
  • Tuna bones have a value that is truly exceptional. They can be used for fish powder that has the capacity to enrich typical diets with omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins and minerals like iron, calcium, and zinc.
  • We, as humans, tend to dramatically undervalue certain parts of fish. Among these under-utilized regions are backbones, viscera, and the head, which make up anywhere between 30 and 70 percent of fish. These areas happen to be especially high in micronutrients. If you have the stomach for it, we say go for it! But here at Mulligan’s we’ll stick to grilling up the fish parts you have grown more accustomed to.
  • The African lungfish is a remarkable creature. Initially, the lungfish was wrongly classified as a reptile; the African lungfish is in fact an amphibian. Wondrously, they have the ability to trap themselves in a mud tunnel if they sense their lake is going to dry up. In this mud tunnel they can live for years and years, waiting until the rains return. Try shouting the above factoid over a lovely seafood dinner at Mulligan’s, and see how our friendly staff reacts! (fair warning: they’ll have no context for what you are saying). That just sounds like a worthwhile social experiment to us.

  • “Finding Nemo”, the incredible Pixar film, is a ruse. That’s right, you heard it here first. Why? Anemone fishes, the kind of fish that Nemo and his father are, have a unique aspect to their species. Only the two largest fish sexually mature. The largest is always the female and the runner-up is always male. But here’s the kicker: when the female dies, the male then changes sex to female, with the next-man-up mentality of the National Football League taking effect in mother-nature, as the next-biggest fish matures to become male. Of course, the entire movie is rife with anthropomorphization. And by that logic, it could be argued that Nemo’s dad was in denial about his mate’s death, whereby he became unable to change sexes. So perhaps it isn’t a ruse after all. Maybe it’s just a setup. Can you say “Nemo Trilogy”? We can. We got your back, Pixar.
  • Fish have evolved to have incredibly intricate shades and patterns to protect them from predators. Although there is a rich diversity in this conversation, most all fish are countershaded. That is to say that they are darker on their tops, growing to be gradually lighter or more silver on their bellies and sides. This serves a pragmatic purpose, as most evolution does. Whether they are seen from above or below, their aim is to make it difficult to be seen.
  • Scallops are remarkable creatures and there are a plethora of fun facts we could share with you about them, but we will try to limit ourselves to only the best tidbits for our readers. For starters (not appetizers), scallops have around 60 eyes that circumvent their mantle. Their eyes help them detect motion, dark, and light. Scallops get their energy by consuming small organisms in the water. But instead of actively hunting for these creatures, they take a filter-feeding approach. Their mucus traps plankton in the water. The last scallop fact we will hit you with today is that Atlantic sea scallops have massive shells! Some of these scallops grow to be 9 inches in size!
  • Seafood products, a vast category, are some of the most widely traded food commodities in the world. The total annual amount traded is in the range of $150 billion. Japan consumes the most seafood in the world, with Spain coming in at number 2.
  • Menhaden fish have a long history with the U.S. Not only is it one of the nation’s most important fishes, but it is today used for a variety of purposes. Among them are being used for feed in dog, cat, and pig food, health supplements, insecticides, paints, margarine, soap, cosmetic protects, and more. But before that, Native Americans taught some of the first European settlers to come to North America to plant Menhaden fish with their corn.
  • Hagfishes are also known as slime hags or slime eels. Slime eels have been aptly named, as evidenced by their ability to produce copious amounts of mucus if sufficiently disturbed. Nicknamed the “skunk of the sea” by some (not really), a slime eel can produce more than two gallons of slime in just a few minutes, should they think they are in enough danger. This slime makes them pretty much inedible, so we don’t recommend trying to catch one for dinner. And fear not, we don’t serve hagfish at our local tropical restaurants!

Waterfront Restaurants | More Than Just Seafood At Mulligan’s!

In our previous post, we took a look at some of the “landfood” items on our predominantly seafood-heavy menu that we consistently hear good things about from our customers. Of course, we enjoy them as well. It helps having such a wide variety of options to choose from, so even our staff doesn’t get tired of the same handful of dishes when they dine in! In today’s post, we will continue with the last one by carrying on highlighting non-seafood dishes. Specifically, we will look at dinner menu items, cocktails, and more. Keep reading if you are interested in learning more about one of the top waterfront and tropical restaurants in Southeastern Florida!

Entrees

  • T-bone Steak – 16 ounces of succulent, grass-fed beef. It’s juicy, it could probably feed three people, and it’s all for you. Add mushrooms and onions if you choose. We make a good steak, it’s that simple. Try our 10 ounce Top Sirloin Steak, on which you can add bleu cheese and bacon…rather, on which you should add bleu cheese and bacon.
  • Caribbean Jerk Chicken – If you are a fan of jerk chicken, this will be right up your alley. An incredible array of spices makes the chicken fizzle in your mouth, and it’s topped with pico de gallo for a refreshing balance.
  • Baby Back Ribs – A timeless, American classic, done right by Mulligan’s. Choose from a full rack or a half-slab. They come with fresh veggies. If you order them, be prepared to share them with your whole party, because they smell incredible, and taste even better.
  • Beach House Surf N Turf – We thought it would be a good idea to give you the best of both worlds when it comes to seafood and landfood. We offer the 10 ounce sirloin steak with a skewer of jumbo blackened shrimp, bursting with full flavor.

Pastas

  • Chicken Broccoli Alfredo – You’ve had it before perhaps, but you probably haven’t had it made by the chefs at Mulligan’s. We add our own twist to the classic dish. Keep in mind that all of our seafood, pasta, steaks, and other entrees come with soup, house salad, or caesar salad. We also have gluten-free options available to you upon request.

Drinks

We offer $6 daily drinks, with a rotating special depending on the day of the week.

  • Monday – Margarita
  • Tuesday – Pina Colada
  • Wednesday – Daiquiri
  • Thursday – Frozen Rum Runner
  • Friday – Long Island Ice Tea
  • Saturday – Mojito

But our drink menu goes well beyond that. We offer 3 different mojitos (Classic, Blueberry, Cucumber), 4 martinis (classic, chocolate raspberry, pomegranate, key lime), and an excellent collection of white and red wine.

In terms of cocktails, we offer our house-made sangria, along with many other refreshing beverages. We even have champagne, if you are here to celebrate!

More Than Just Seafood: Highlighting Mulligan’s “Landfood” Breakfast And Lunch Items

At Mulligan’s Beach House Bar & Grill, we have a variety of incredible seafood options to choose from. As native Floridians, our owners and operators understand the difference between your average seafood restaurant and a waterfront restaurant that is truly unique. The latter category is exactly what we’ve sought to create here at Mulligan’s Beach House Bar & Grill. And although we offer flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth selections of Mahi, lobster, shrimp, clams, tuna, salmon, and more, we understand that there is more to providing a great tropical restaurant experience than simply having great seafood. But, it doesn’t hurt.

So what do we think goes into creating a fantastic dining experience for breakfast, lunch, or dinner? That’s an excellent question, we are so pleased you asked! We believe, in addition to great seafood, it starts with the atmosphere. That’s why we make a point to make you feel right at home the moment you walk into one of our fine local seafood restaurants. It’s always a great time at Mulligan’s, whether you join us for happy hour after your work day or are stopping by the area looking for a family restaurant. We know how to have fun, and with a great range of mixed drinks and other libations to choose from, you are sure to enjoy yourself as well! We have locations in Lake Worth, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Jensen Beach, Stuart, Vero Beach, and Sebastian, and that means that you probably don’t have to drive too far to come see us!

Today’s Topic

So we’ve established that great seafood and a fantastic environment are essential elements for a waterfront restaurant that wants to be taken seriously. Check and check. But the meat and potatoes of today’s post, as the title no doubt already informed you, is about some of our most popular items on the menu that aren’t seafood-based. Read on if you are interested in hearing about some delicious breakfast and lunch items that people rave about here in South Florida!

Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner

We are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner 365 days a year. No matter what meal you join us for, we want to make sure that everyone finds something on the menu that catches their eye. That’s why we have such a wealth of options of “landfood”, if you will. So while we won’t be listing every single item on our menu that doesn’t come from the ocean, we will give you a quick list of some of our favorites.

Breakfast

  • Breakfast Platter – Sometimes, you need a classic, hearty, American breakfast. We use American diners (the good ones) for inspiration here as you can get two eggs any style, two sausage patties, two bacon strips, home fries, and toast. If you happened to be out sipping on one too many Mai Tais the night before, here is your antidote.
  • Nutella Banana Toast – Everyone likes nutella. This is well known. What is slightly less well known is the fact that Mulligan’s Beach Restaurant has the world’s best Nutella Banana French Toast. Not only do we get the balance just right, but we stuff them inside the toast as well. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, give it a try.
  • Breakfast Burrito – An absolute classic, done right. Choose from sausage, bacon, sour cream, or if you are feeling like a nap after breakfast…all three! Try it on Tuesday to pair it with a $6 Pina Colada!
  • Greek Omelette – We do more than just a classic American-style breakfast. We make a mean Greek Omelette, complete with feta cheese, creamy spinach, and tomatoes. It’s a refreshing way to start your day while still giving you all the calories you need to make it to lunch.
  • Simple & Fit Platter – Not everyone wants to go into a food coma after they eat breakfast, and while we don’t understand such a feeling, we can respect it. That’s why we have the Simple & Fit Platter with scrambled egg whites, rotating fresh fruit, and whole wheat toast to get your day started off right.
  • Fried Chicken Benedict – Okay, we might be getting slightly carried away with all of our breakfast choices, but we can’t help ourselves. And we wanted to feature a southern dish after talking about something so overtly healthy in our Simple & Fit Platter. Our Fried Chicken Benedict comes with two buttermilk biscuits baked to perfection, fried chicken with just the right amount of crunch, and over easy eggs. Top it off with our country sausage gravy, and you’ve got yourself the fixins’ for a rustic twist on a classic breakfast dish.

Appetizers

  • Spinach Artichoke Dip – This is our own house recipe, so we don’t want to give our secrets away. Just try it. You’ll love it. You might even order another one, or two. We won’t judge you.
  • Oh So Cheesey Fries – No need for seafood here, just plenty of cheese, green onions, and bacon. Basically, all we need to do is make you aware of this option, because, really, it speaks for itself.
  • Drunken Onion Rings – These puppies are beer battered and come with our special cajun remoulade to add a southern twist on the classic American appetizer.

We offer many other options, but in the interest of time, you can refer to our menu or just stop on by for a full list! Keep in mind we offer a great many seafood appetizers, like our Calypso Crab Cake, Seafood Trio, and Key West conch Fritters, made with tender queen conch in an herb batter.

Lunch Items

  • Margherita Flatbread – Our flat bread is flavorful and baked perfectly. This simple dish includes basil, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese. Simple, classic, delicious.
  • Chicken Bella Flatbread – if you are looking for a bit more substance on your flatbread, we’ve got just the thing. With grilled chicken, mushrooms, melted goat cheese, tomatoes, and spinach, each bite explodes in your mouth.
  • Mulligan’s Cobb Salad – Cobb salad lovers won’t be disappointed. It’s exactly what you are looking for in a cobb salad. With egg, chicken, guac, bacon, tomato, cheddar and jack cheese, and your favorite dressing, what’s not to love?
  • Texas Burger – We are Floridian through and through, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate another state’s take. This is a burger done right, with BBQ sauce, bacon, cheddar cheese, and a juicy patty…it’s pretty tough to be disappointed.
  • Philly Steak – In keeping with the homages, we also know how to prepare a pretty darn good Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, if we do say so ourselves. With onion rings on top, melted cheese, more onions, mushrooms, and of course, tender steak, it’s one to try if the mood strikes.
  • Our BLT – This is another classic that people who aren’t in a seafood mood will typically enjoy. Keep in mind you can substitute the “B” for turkey or Mahi for just a bit more!
  • Chicken Bella Wrap – Finally, we have the Dr. Marty recommended wrap. Complete with roasted mushrooms, goat cheese, greens, tomatoes, grilled chicken, and a thai ginger wrap, this is one of our customers’ top choices in the lunch department.

Whether you are looking for a family restaurant in Jensen Beach, are searching “fresh seafood near me” into your search bar, or just want to find the best restaurant around you, Mulligan’s Beach House Bar & Grill is worthy of your consideration. While we certainly have a  great seafood menu, we wanted you to be aware of some other options that we are proud to offer at all of our Southeastern Florida locations. In our next post, we will be taking a look at some of our dinner and dessert options that we didn’t have time to highlight today. Keep a look out for that one, and come on down to Mulligan’s the next time you are in the mood to have some great food and a fun time!

Fun Activities In Lake Worth For The Whole Family

We here at Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill have locations in Lake Worth, Vero Beach, Jensen Beach, Lauderdale by the Sea, Sebastian, and Stuart. Throughout southern and central Florida you can find our wonderful tropical restaurants filled with happy people, including families and kids, having a great time eating fantastic food.

In our previous two posts, we outlined some of the fun things to do in Vero Beach and Jensen Beach. The two beach communities have so many different activities to offer that it was difficult to whittle our list down to a manageable size. In today’s post, which is dedicated to outlining activities in Lake Worth, we have a similar problem on our hands. That said, let’s dive into some of the exciting events and hidden gems that Lake Worth offers tourists and locals alike.

Palm Beach Bass Fishing

If you have any interest in fishing whatsoever, you are not going to want to miss the bass fishing that can be found on Palm Beach’s wonderful lakes. The butterfly peacock bass are a sight to behold in their own right, but when you add a little sport to the mix, then you really are cooking up a good time.

Comfortably aboard a 21 foot fishing boat, you’ll have a captain who knows Palm Beach’s lakes like the back of their hand. And if you have members of your party worried about being compelled to fish (or getting wet), have no fear. There is no pressure here, only good times. Likewise, if you are an experienced angler or are a first timer, your captain will cater to what you need. After all, it’s your trip! And by the way, if you want to skip the catching portion of your seafood dinner, come on by Mulligan’s in Lake Worth! We have some of the best Mahi Mahi in all of Florida!

A Farmer’s Market On The Beach

If fresh air, fresh vegetables, and fresh water sound like a good use of a day to you, then Lake Worth’s Farmer’s Market might be worth checking out, should you be visiting the Palm Beach region any time soon. The farmer’s market is right on the water, with a small town feel.

As one reviewer put it in her online review of the market, the market has “fresh produce and beautiful surroundings! What a lovely idea to have a farmers market between the intercoastal waterway and the beach! If you are the type of person who wants to get in and out quickly, you are in luck as this is one of the smaller markets where you still have a good assortment of stands and be able to get all your shopping done in a few minutes. Fresh breads, farm fresh eggs, organic vegetables and fruits and much more, make this a delightful place to shop.”

Talk about a glowing review! Lake Worth’s Farmer’s Market is definitely worth a visit to get some local flavor.

Downtown Lake Worth

Speaking of things to do in town, let’s talk about Lake Worth’s downtown for a minute. If you are a fan of coffee shops, boutique shopping, food trucks, live music, quality seafood restaurants (like Mulligan’s), and fun events like sidewalk chalk painting and face painting, this is a downtown right for you.

Another aspect of Lake Worth is that it has a unique, almost quirky vibe to it. As Susan C., of Georgia, put it: “Fun and Funky. It lives up to ‘Keep Lake Worth Weird’. One of the reasons we bought in Lakeworth is the Fun and Funky factor. There is not the typical polished corporate retail and the people are Very welcoming. There is a variety of eateries which are all unique and delicious. Many great festivals and activities year round. Worth a visit for certain!”

Nice pun, Susan! And we agree 100 percent with Susan. Downtown has a little bit of fun for everyone, so it’s perfect if you are alone, a couple, or are going with a family!

Rapids Water Park

Given a ⅘ rating by Travelocity, you probably are going to want to cool off at Lake Worth’s water park of choice, Rapids Water Park, the largest water park in all of South Florida! With 42 different water slides to choose from, the kids are certain to have a good time. While they are busy screaming their heads off and having a great time, you can finally slow down, unwind, and let the sun kiss your skin. The water park is 30 acres across, and boasts a variety of rides and activities, like the splash gymnastics at Alligator Alley.

Of course, no water park is complete without a lazy river and a gigantic (25,000 square foot!) wave pool. Located just a few miles north of Lake Worth, this is a family activity you don’t want to miss out on!

Eco Tours

There are plenty of opportunities to experience nature where the land meets the sea at Lake Worth. And if you are a person who likes to be a bit more active while being a part of nature (sorry, anglers), you can take an eco tour by kayaking or paddle boarding around Lake Worth!

And don’t worry if you have never paddle boarded before, because Paddleboard Connection has experienced, down-to-earth instructors who love showing newbies the ropes. Take sunset tours, full moon tours, and guided tours, and join so many others partaking the fastest growing watersport in the world!

Here is what one of their customers had to say about their paddleboarding tour with Paddleboard Connection: “Absolutely perfect paddle boarding. We came into town for 3 days and called/texted Paddleboard Connection last minute and Vivian was able to work is into her schedule. She was so kind to us and gave excellent instruction before getting on the boards. She was knowledgeable about both The history of Paddle boarding and the area! We just loved getting to know her while relaxing on the water!”

Clearly, if you are on the adventurous side, this is a Lake Worth attraction that is worthy of consideration!

Guided Segway Tour Of Deerfield Beach

If you’d rather get a lay of the land…on the land, something the whole family can enjoy without working up too much of a sweat is the segway tour of Deerfield Beach. Based in Boca Raton, you’ll experience incredible views from the peaceful vantage point of a segway. The coast is truly a sight worth seeing, and better yet, groups get to see the famous “Al Capone Island”, along with a host of other local hidden gems the Palm Beach area has to offer. And if you are worried about operating the segway, fear not, because their instructors are calm, experienced, and will help you out! It’s a low intensity tour, so get ready to relax while you enjoy the wonderful Atlantic Coast.

The Crown Jewel Of Lake Worth

You probably could have guessed this one! Located on 10 Ocean Blvd., Lake Worth, FL., Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill is a full-service restaurant that goes above and beyond “just seafood”. A kid-friendly, family restaurant, everyone will find something to enjoy on our extensive menu.

Found within the Lake Worth Casino Building and renovated Beach Complex, the casino is an attraction in its own right, as it has a classic 1920s feel. And if you are planning on coming with kids, keep in mind that there is no gambling at the new complex. Our community just wanted to keep the name “casino” to remind everyone about Lake Worth’s history. With happy hour everyday from 1-7pm, and a great line of desserts, appetizers, land food, and cocktails, you won’t regret you stopped by one of South Florida’s top restaurants! Come on by Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill, and come get yourself a flavorful menu item that is sure to surprise and delight.

What People Are Saying About Mulligan’s Beach House Bar And Grill

Most of our local Floridian readers likely already know how beautiful a spot Jensen Beach is. Located north of Stuart and just south of Savannas Preserve State Park, there aren’t too many places you could rather be than at a lovely waterfront restaurant at Jensen Beach. Luckily, Mulligan’s Beach House Bar at Jensen Beach is such a waterfront restaurant, serving delicious seafood and other menu items that will be sure to delight your tastebuds. While you are busy tasting, you’ll be able to take in the sights and sounds of the water, as Mulligan’s is one of the top beach restaurants around.

Today’s post is going to be dedicated to our readers who want to know what people are saying about Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill. In today’s day and age, there are more negative reviews for businesses than bits of sand on the beach. It makes sense, too. People don’t enjoy it when they receive a poor product or service, and want others like them to know what happened. But conversely, when people get what they expect, they are much less likely to go out of their way and leave a positive review. With that in mind, we at Mulligan’s are very proud of the positive feedback we have received throughout the years. But we don’t have to look far to find some glowing reviews about the wonderful customer experiences we daily provide.

So, you’ll have to excuse us for a moment while we go ahead and brag about ourselves! We are proud of having the top waterfront restaurants in Jensen Beach, with wonderful locations in Vero Beach and Lake Worth as well. We want locals and visitors alike to realize that they don’t need to search “fish restaurant near me” anymore. All you have to do is make your way on over to 2019 NE Jensen Beach Blvd, Jensen Beach, FL 34957!

“Definitely Recommend!!!”

“This place was great!!!! We drove 20+ minutes to come here for crab legs for my moms birthday and she was more than pleased. They were very accommodating considering we did show up an hour before close as a large party. The calamari was delicious and the servings were large!!!!!  Definitely recommend !!!! Our server ty was great and very polite and professional… we are a large crazy group from New York!!!” – T.T.

We love large groups! So don’t be shy, even if you are from New York. We love creating a warm, high-energy atmosphere where everybody can be themselves, like T.T.’s group. By the way, T.T. is absolutely correct; our calamari is delicious (and huge), and TY is a great server. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a kind review, T.T.

“The Hot Wings Were Super And A Good Value”

“We recently stopped in for afternoon drinks and apps. We sat at the bar in front along the street and enjoyed a beautiful day and view of the river. The spicy shrimp were tasty and the hot wings were super and a good value. Our bartender was very attentive.” – Dee B.

We couldn’t agree more with Dee, the spicy shrimp are absolutely incredible! By the way, Dee, thanks for taking the time to tell us about your experience. We are very pleased you had a good time and were had great service! We make a point to ensure that all of our staff, be they bartenders, hosts, or servers, all understand that there is no higher priority than the customer. While we can’t promise perfection, we do our best to make sure that every one is taken care of, and that the cocktails and spicy shrimp keep on coming!

“We Love This Place!”

“We love this place! This is our favorite local restaurant. Honestly you might find better fish somewhere else but you can’t beat the atmosphere and service. I love the tacos and always order them. They feature a large menu so there’s something for everyone.” – Kim C.

Thanks for taking the time to tell us how we are doing, Kim! We genuinely appreciate it, and even moreso when we hear that this is Kim and company’s favorite local restaurant! And Kim is absolutely correct, we feature a menu with plenty of options. So if you are thinking that you would love to go to a centrally located waterfront restaurant, but aren’t the biggest seafood fan in the world, we have some wonderful options for you. Whether it’s breakfast, appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches and sliders, entrees, or beverages, Mulligan’s is the top restaurant around.

“The Service Is Amazing And The Food Is Even Better!”

“Came here to celebrate my friend’s little sister’s 21st birthday last week. We were all first-timers and very much enjoyed our lunch here!! The service is amazing and the food is even better!! I would definitely recommend anyone coming here and eating. We did like a family-style buffet and shared mahi fish tacos, clam fritters platter, and the monster fish and chips. It was also nice to have a view of the river and the boats docked there. Everything was amazing!!” Lina Y.

Talk about a glowing review! Thank you so much Lina, we are so happy you and your company enjoyed your friend’s twenty first birthday with us! Although we pride ourselves on being a kid friendly restaurant (making sure everyone has fun), we are also a top restaurant for birthday parties, company events, and happy hour! It’s tough to find a gathering that isn’t improved by the beautiful beachfront location, delicious seafood, and friendly staff. All those combine to make quite the tropical restaurant, but when you add in affordable prices as well, and Mulligan’s becomes a must-visit, if we do say so ourselves.

“A Long Established Local Favorite”

“Went here for a brunch after a nice weekend in the island. The food was good and the staff was very friendly! We were even greeted by the wonder upon arriving. We had a party of ten and the staff handled this very well. The only complaint was that two orders were wrong. This was quickly fixed without any issue. There was not a terribly long wait for the food to arrive at all. A family friendly atmosphere where the adults could chat but the child present could also feel comfortable. Most people in our party ordered the pancakes, even if they don’t normally like them since the pancakes here are fantastic. Would recommend this restaurant as a long established local favorite.” – Laura S.

Thanks Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to let us know how we are doing. And although we weren’t perfect that evening, at least we were able to quickly fix the issue and everyone got what they ordered. We highlight this to show you that we aren’t just full of fluff; we are realistic. Mistakes will happen from time to time, but even when they do, we do our best to make it right with our customers.

The other part of this review that we would like to point out is the fact that we are a “long established local favorite.” This is significant because to note because a there are more than a handful of restaurants out there that locals know better to ignore. Those types of restaurants tend to prey on tourists who don’t know any better. As Laura has attested, that couldn’t be further from the truth at Mulligan’s Beach House. We are the top tropical restaurant around for more reasons than our location.

We hope that you’ve enjoyed today’s post, and found it helpful in your search for Jensen Beach restaurants. We are proud to be a top choice for locals and visitors alike. With great specials, family night on Thursdays from 5-8pm (kids eat free!), and happy hour everyday from 1-7pm, we are Jensen Beach’s top waterfront restaurant for a reason. So what are you waiting for, stop reading and come join the beach party at Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill!
